"The Office" Jumps on the Weight Loss Banwaggon



In case you missed the season premier of the hit show "The Office" (or perhaps for some crazy reason don't watch it) - the episode focused on weight loss. In fact, even the title of the episode was called "Weight Loss."

Dunder-Mifflin announces a company wide weight-loss competition with the prize being an extra three days of vacation for the winning branch. Needles to say hilarity ensues and no real weight loss is actually...well, lost.

The question is - in the real workplace, do you actually think something like a weight-loss competition would be successful? I would have to say no and that it simply points the finger at people and make's them feel uncomfortable. At the end of the day it comes down to individual perseverance and making the decision for yourself, for the right reasons.

Still, what a funny episode!

Freshman 15...Meet Your Worst Enemy!



myNutrition is a new web-site designed to help students track their on-campus food intake.

Created by Washington State University (WSU) Dining Services, the site provides students and staff nutritional information on food served at the dining centers.

Annie Roe, a registered dietitian and founder of the myNutrition program explains, "there is a link to the Dining Services recipe database, you just pick where you ate and select what you had then it will give you all of the nutrition information."

I have to say this seems like a great way for young people to be more aware of what they put into their body! Hopefully the program will be a new standard for ALL Universities and Colleges.

Slim With NIM: Sweet Potato Fries

These fries are a healthy and delicious alternative to French fries!

Ingredients:
1 Cup Yams, Jumbo
1/8 DRYTSP Pepper (Ground Black Pepper)
1/8 DRYTSP Oregano (Dried)
1/8 DRYTSP Basil (Dried)
1/2 tsp Lemon Juice - Bottled (fresh is ideal)
1/8 DRYTSP Salt (Kosher)
1 tsp Olive Oil - Extra Virgin

Serves: 1

Directions:
Peel Potatoes and cut into 3" Long French Fries (1/2" thick)

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

2. Boil or microwave potatoes in water until soft. Toss with seasonings, lemon juice, salt, pepper and olive oil.

3. Arrange fries on baking dish and bake for 30 minutes or until crispy.

Take a Tip From Nate Dogg and EAT Healthy!



39-year-old rapper/producer Nate Dogg,real name Nathaniel Hale, "has suffered another stroke from his bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle," according to his cousin Donald Smith.

The 4-time Grammy Nominee (and cousin to Snoop Dogg) made his debut in 1992, since then having contributed to or featured in over 60 chart singles. 

Currently he is in stable condition, and off life support, however he still requires the use of a feeding tube.

Oldest Man In The World Shares Personal Diet Tips



At 113 years of age, Tomoji Tanabe, from Japan, relies on a diet of fried shrimp, a glass of milk a day and no alcohol or cigarettes.

"His favourite food is fried shrimp, but we've heard that he's cut back on oily food," said an official at his hometown of Miyakonojo, roughly 900 km from Tokyo.

Japan has one of the world's highest life expectancy rates. This is attributed to a variety of factors including a "traditional healthy diet with plenty of vegetables. Japanese woman have topped the world's longevity ranks for 23 years, while men rank third after Iceland and Hong Kong."

On Your Mark, Get Set, J.Lo!



This past weekend Jennifer Lopez participated in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, in an effort to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Not only was it for an amazing cause, but also a great way for her to shed some of the recent weight gained after giving birth to twins last month!

Other celebs' to enjoy the event included, Matthew McConaughey William H. Macy, Anna Kournikova, and former Saved by The Bell star Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

Slim With NIM: Guacamole

This light and refreshing snack is great to eat as is or with multigrain tortilla chips!

Ingredients:
1 small red onion - diced
1/4 cup, fresh cilantro - chopped
1 garlic clove - peeled, minced
3 Avocados - peeled and mashed
1.5 cups plum tomatoes - seeded and finely chopped
60 ml Lime Juice - Fresh
1 DRYTSP Salt (kosher)

Serves: 6

Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, wearing gloves, mash together the avocados and lime juice by hand until smooth consistency has been achieved, Mix in salt.

2. Mix in onion, cilantro, tomatoes and garlic.

3. Enjoy!

Phelps Signs Deal with McDonald's & Frosted Flakes?



It's always nice when celebrities set "fine" examples for others (especially kids) to follow. In fact, now that Olympic Superstar Michael Phelps has signed a lucrative deal with McDonald's and Frosted Flakes, you can be sure that will be all I'm eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm serious! If Michael Phelps (arguably one of the greatest athletes of the decade) is on the Mickey Dee's diet than it can't be that bad for you! 

Oh wait, I apologize! He signed a deal with Corn Flakes too - so it's all good right? I mean how many kids are willingly eating Corn Flakes these days?

Way to sell out Phelps! Nice to know you're putting those gold medals to use...

Slim With NIM: Strawberry Spinach Salad

Ingredients:
1 tbsp. Sesame Seeds
1 tsp. Poppy Seeds
1 tbsp. Honey
2 tbsp. Olive Oil - Extra Virgin
1 tbsp. Vinegar (White)
1/8 tsp. Paprika
5 Gram Onion (Red), Minced
100 Gram Spinach (Baby)
100 Gram Strawberries, Halved
4 tbsp. Nuts (Almond Slivers)

Serves: 2

Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, honey, olive oil, vinegar, paprika and onion.

2. Layer salad bowl with spinach, then strawberries, then almonds. Toss salad with dressing and serve..
