Save Money and Stay Fit

WIth the two most popular New Year's Resolutions being saving money and staying fit, we at NIM thought we'd spend the next couple of posts metaphorically killing two birds with one stone by offering up these helpful suggestion.

Idea #1: January is the Month to join a gym.

Thanks to the one-two punch of the sinking economy and this being January, gyms are bending over backwards to get you to sign on the dotted line. According to the LA TIMES "Lapsed members of the upscale SportsClub/LA ( were recently invited to return with no need to pay the one-time initiation fee, which can be at least $600, and no membership dues for two months, a savings for some of at least $330" Other chains offering reduced rates for the new year include Bally Total Fitness, Curves, and Gold’s Gym."

That said, a year-long gym membership shouldn't be taken lightly. So before you sign on the dotted line, be sure that you're actually going to make use of your fairly pricey membership. Because from personal experience we can attest to the fact that handing over $80 a month for a gym membership that you don't use isn't the easiest pill to swallow.
