Celebrate Food Day This Long Weekend!

Source: Winnipeg Free Press (Summary by NIM)

For those of us who love food, every day is food day. But in 2003, one passionate culinary activist felt that Canadian food and agriculture truly needed to be celebrated and appreciated on a much larger scale. As a result, over that year's August Long weekend, she pulled off the World's longest barbecue and founded a tradition that has been going strong ever since.

This year, Anita Stewart, the founder of Food Day, has extended the scope of this special event to include and reward great contributions in the Canadian culinary tradition by giving recognition to Canadian restaurateurs, suppliers, growers and farmers. According to Stewart, the restaurants all across Canada that are celebrating Food Day this year can be spotted by a special banner displayed just outside of the restaurant.

So this long weekend, be sure to join in on the festivities and surround yourself with friends and family and fire up the BBQ in celebration of Canada's culinary history!
